As I was driving around town today in high 80's weather, my air conditioning kept coming on for no reason. I would hit the off button and it would stay off for a few minutes, and then randomly come back on a few minutes later. I'm 100% sure I was turning it off. Whats the deal?!? Anyone else ever had this problem? It's a 1997. :skep:
Yea, I dont know why GM decided that they know better than the driver what the f they want. In order to keep your air from coming on via poltergiest you must turn it off before you turn off the ignition. This keeps it from going to "auto" the next time you start it. If I forget I will turn the ignition to AC and hit off after I've turned the car off.
I was having the same problem with my 1999 Blazer LT. The dealer said it was the actual "auto HVAC control unit" in the dash. They replaced the whole unit under the warranty. Haven't had any problems since. Hope this helps.

Check your mode setting. If the little icon indicates that air is being directed at the windshield, the defroster is on. If the defroster is on the a/c cannot be turned off. Depress the mode button until the icon indicating air to the windshileld is off.
Yep...have learned to live with it on my '97 A4. Regardless of the setting when I turn the car off, sometimes I'll start it up and the car decides to turn the air on; then sometimes it happens when I'm going down the road. Haven't tried to figure out what the problem is and I'd hate to try to chase down a bad ground. If you find out what's doing in on yours, please, please let me know what it was.
