'01 performance/reliability issues: what's the story?
I'm looking at a 2001 auto coupe and have heard '01s tend to burn oil and have other issues specific to that year. I'd be interested in hearing from '01 owners about problems, if any, they've run into. Thanks!

I've got a '01 MN6. Regarding the oil, I think it's been hashed out on this forum that we do burn oil and it's normal. We drive high performance cars and they will burn oil. My car has been in the shop a few times because the rear has been leaking tranny fuild, but it's been fixed now. I've heard people rant about column lock.

Some 2001's have a few issues, most are fine. If you are looking at an A4, you do not have to worry about column lock. Most of the cars that burn oil are MN6's and Z06's. The rings will flutter in a high RPM, low load condition. Unless you plan on leaving the auto in 1 or 2 rather than D, you should be fine. Some early 2001's also have a brake booster issue. The pedal does not fully return after WOT then braking. There are TSB's for these issues. Have your dealer run a check on the VIN to see what warranty work has been done.
