My rack is leaking. Chevy want $1100+ to replace it. The part alone is $756. I have seen rebuilt ones for around $300. Can anyone recomend if it's worth it to go with the new rack or a rebuilt unit?
Also what is involved to replace this. If it's simply disconnecting the end, sharts and tubes and replacing the part it shouldn't be that difficult. It's about 3 hours labor in the book. I think I could do it in about 2-3 hours. Are their special bleeding procedures or anything I should be aware of? I really don't want to pay the $456 premium on the new part. Thanks in advance.
We do rack replacements and only use new versus rebuilt only when specifically requested or a rebuilt is not available. The racks we use have a lifetime warranty compared to 1 year for a GM part. The price is usually better on the rebuilt. :seeya

I had my steering rack out to install a cam. It's not too difficult, 2-3 hours should be enough time. Check out jMx's website for instructions on removing it as part of his C5 heads+cam install. He says it much better than I would, almost makes me wish I didn't swap my cam before his instructions were up. http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=1
I didn't have to bleed anything, but then I put the same rack back in, not an empty one with no fluid before hand.
