Guys, I have a 2003 Z06. I currently have 1,003 miles on it and planning to change the oil this weekend. What brand of oil and filter do you guys recommend? Thanks! :)
Sorry, guys, I can't find my manual. How many quarts of oil is needed?
7 - get the 5 qt. bottle and a 6 pack of qts. at wal-mart, save the extra singles for the next 2 changes. With a K&N filter from Advance it comes out to about $35 per DIY change.
Another great $5 investment is a magnetic oil drain plug from your local GM dealer. Part #24100042
:flag Let the oil drain for 20 or so minutes to fully drain. Also make sure the chassy level. I have been doing mine since new. told the wifey.. I plan to buy / trade for new vet w/427 when available. She said    not until I have all new furniture, She just got new kitchen for the price of a vet.. ..
1. Drive the front of the car onto Rhino Ramps, turn off, leave in 1st, set emergency-brake.
2. Pull the filter.
3. Pull the drainplug.
4. Jack up the rear with an hydrualic jack so the rear is slightly higher than the front. Use a 10 pound barbell weight between the jack and the aluminum crossmember.
5. Remove filler cap and let drain. I usually let it sit over night but I'm cooky.
6. Fill the new filter with Mobil1. Attach to car.
7. Replace drainplug.
8. Add Mobil1 and replace filler cap.
9. Drop rear of car (gently) and get the jack out of the way.
10. Start car, put in reverse, drive off ramps.
11. Reset Oil Life Monitor.
12. Have a nice day!
You shouldnt change oil until the oil moniter light comes on. Mobil 1 takes longer to break in an engine due to lower friction. You need to change your mind about changing oil every 2-3000 miles the new oils are much better than the older. ;)

Better safe than sorry. I first changed mine at 580 miles.
6.5 qts. to refill with filter per sm. (Mobile 1 filter - #M107, about $11 @ Autozone) Delco ultraguards too hard to find unless you want to order one. The Mobile 1 filter is a premium filter well.
Sir Sel do you have the problem thats been discussed on the forum with having to add oil between oil changes?
Yes my burned a little oil when it was stock, about 1 quart 2500 miles and it burns a little more in my 436. Hopefully the ring problem will be fixed permanently on the C6.
Here is my 2 cents. After changing your filter filled with engine oil, disable the ignition/fuel system and crank the engine (won't start) for not more than 10 seconds and watch your oil pressure gauge until it registers pressure. Restore the ignition/fuel system and start up the car. By doing this, you are priming (prelube) the engine.
If I had a C5, I'd use 7 quarts of Redline 5w30, along with a K&N HP1007 oil filter. Change it every 5-6k and you'll get an extremely long life out of that LS1/LS6.
