Default Clutch in 2002 Coupe

I was told recently by a friend that the 2002 coupes have the Z06 clutch in them. (other years might as well, I'm just worried about mine...lol

Is this true? I'd certainly feel a lot better at the track, knowing how much trouble changing the clutch is in our cars.

First I have heard of this. I don't think it's true but don't know for sure. I seem to remember all the write-ups indicating that the stronger Z06 clutch was easy to use which would indicate that it is indeed a different setup.

The clutch in 2001+ LS1 Vettes are the same. The clutch for the LS6 was improved in 2002.

From the NCM website regarding the changes in the 2002 Z06 clutch.

"LS6 Clutch Improvements
To withstand the greater torque output of the new engine, the LS6 clutch was redesigned. Clamp load has been increased seven percent and durability has been augmented by the following enhancements:

The clutch-driven disc was redesigned, with the flange plate thickness increased by 20 percent - from 5 mm to 6 mm
The damper springs were redesigned to increase wind-up rate, from 33 Newton-meter degrees to 35 Newton-meter degrees
Premium alloy steel wire is now used for the damper springs

These changes ensure long life and good performance for the LS6 clutch."

Hi,
The ’01 Z06 came with an improved clutch which was different than the ’01 coupe. In ’02, this improved clutch was used on LS1 cars and the Z06 clutch was improved for a second time. So, yes , your coupe has a '01 Z06 clutch.

Good luck,
Steve
