Default 2000 Vert, TRUNK RELEASE!!

OK.. here's another one for you guys. My rear trunk lid WILL NOT pop up when I push the release button on my 2000 Vert. It WILL unlatch but I have to VERY carefully get a finger under a corner so I don't scratch my paint and lift it up. The dealership has replaced the struts. Is there an adjustment for this? This is one of those little things that DRIVES ME NUTS!! Suggestions anyone??? THANKS! :mad :mad

Screw the little rubber posts in the corners out a bit more they are pushing up harder.

Make sure the latch and the striker are properly aligned. Alot of these rub and stick when trying to release.

:withstupid:
Chev put out a bulletin about this, do an archive search. DO NOT adjust the rubber bumpers to remedy this. It only stresses the lid continuously.

Dont feel like your the only one on the boat. My 02 ZO6 has the same problem. The dealer "said" that they changed the struts but I dont think so, and they have adjusted it every way that it can be adjusted. It still does the same thing! :mad :cuss It seems to be temperature related as when it's hot out it seems to work a little bit better.

My 99 vert did the same thing. I lubed everything with lithium spray grease. The strut shafts, latch, hinges, and lock mechanism. It took about a month and now it works good. It pops up about 1/2". Hope it stays OK because I was getting tired of having to shut the door to pop up the trunk. And that only worked when the top was up.

You might try to bend the wire that pops the trunk open just a little. Worked fine on my 98.

I got the same problem in my FRC & fix it finally !!! Betcha it's your latch mechanism that is loose from its bolting point to the body of the car. Try jiggling it, if it is loose you tighten the bolt thru hole behind your rear license plate.
Even the dealer could not figure out how to fix it right, go figure.
At least it was warranty repair & did not cost me anything.

OK, you guys it'll be $20 a piece :jester
