I finally got rid of the Goodyear runflats. And, purchased the Kumho MX's.
The Kumho's are much quieter as everyone suggested. However, dry traction doesn't really seem any better than the Goodyears? Do these tires need to be driven and broken in to perform better? I was pulling 1.9 60' times with the Goodyears.
All driving has been on the street. And, I'm not doing burn outs for obvious reasons. Maybe I need to put 100 miles or so on them to see better performance?
I'm running 32 psi in the tires. Weather conditions about 70 degrees.
Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks
I've read in other threads that there is a release agent on the tires to help get them out of the molds after they are made. They have said that it takes up to 1,000 miles to get rid of it. Dunno if this is true or not but it sounds ok. :skep:
I have had the Kumho's on for about 1500 miles and they hook ALOT better then my runflats (given - my runflats were pretty bald when i purchased the car).
I have noticed now that the weather is heating up that they are getting stickier and stickier...

Much quieter, better traction BUT, keep some tire plugs and/or can of fix-a-flat in one of the storage bins. I have the MX's and I really like them. I am running the Nitto Extreme DR's on 17" wheels at the dragstrip but I definitely noticed that the MX's hook better on the street than the EMT's.
I have the same tire and would go to 35PSI cold. These tires have a Max PSI of around 50 or so. Just look at your side wall. I was told by the tire place that because of the cushy sideway, the 35 PSI would firm up the steering response that I was lacking compared to the runflats. I put in the standard 30PSI from the 35 they put in when I got home. They were right! Much better response. :blueangel:

Just watch your treadwear. You may have more down the center of the tire. The Vette is a very light car as compared to the tread size.
I would suggest 24 psi cold for drag strip duty and a good burnout. I have a new set of drag radials sitting in my garage but so far haven't felt the need to use them.
I have about 1200 miles on my MX tires. MUCH stickier than the runflats ever were.
I initially set them at 35 PSI, but on a long trip at 80-90 MPH in 110 degree heat (California central valley), I was getting overpressure warnings on the DIC (at 42 PSI). Annoying, but not really a problem since the tires are rated to 52 PSI.
I backed down a few PSI (to 32 cold), but I did notice a tiny bit of slop in the tires at the lower pressure.

Can the PCM be reprogrammed for different PSI low and highs?
I have a new set of GY's on one set of wheels, and fairly new MX's on the other. Same freeway onramp - uphill straight into left hand turn, uneven pavement. Push down on pedal. MX's - no drama. GY's - hold on for dear life, they are all over the road. That about sums up my experience. By the way, the temp rise in the MX's at speed is large - I saw about a 13 lb rise last time out at the road track.
I'm heading out to Carlsbad this weekend and see
how well the Kumho's hook up. Like I said earlier,
the runflats pulled 1.9's 60'. I didn't think that was too
bad.
