The passenger window on my '99 FRC will not go down. You can hear a "clicking" sound, which appears to be coming from within the door, when you activate the button but nothing happens.
I've heard this can a fairly common problem with the passenger side door. Any ideas of what is needed to fix this?
Try slamming the door, due to rare use the window can sometimes stick. Otherwise see the link below to remove the doorpanel for a visual inspection. It may be binding or the regulator may be toast. http://www.vetteessentials.com/instr...or_handle.html
BCM is located under the toe board in the passenger side.
I assume both switches respond identically?
Check for DIC codes before you go there. This link will show you how, then post your codes. https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...D=26&TopicID=1
It's likely a motor/gearbox issue.
By both switches you mean from both doors, correct? Yes, both door buttons/switches respond the same way.
By the way, I had this same trouble last year and by slamming the door while activating the button/switch it started to work. I tried the same this time with no luck.
Keep us posted on what you find. I have the exact same problem on my 99 FRC. Both window switches click, and I even removed the door panel to check connectors, but found nothing. The previous owner had the problem once, and was told by the dealer it was a bad ground. It worked for a while after that, but was inop when I bought the car. I have no idea where this ground may be, as I have not gotten the wiring diagrams yet.
I'll check the DIC codes tonight to see what, if anything, they show. I'll let you know what I find!
I'll keep you posted. I have never looked inside the door but I want to believe that if I run power to the motor and it operate then the trouble has to be in a relay or something? The clicking noise has me puzzled.
The clicking noise ( sound) is the relay in a little control box that is mounted to the side of the door. It has about 4 or 5 connectors going to it. Two of them I could not get removed without unbolting the unit from the door. I think the clicking is normal. Can hear the same click on the drivers side but the window movement normally drowns this out. If it is the motor, it sure looks like a PITA to change! A link on one of the post above this on how to remove the door panel shows a picture of that control box if I remember right.
I wonder if the motor failures are actually gearbox failures similar to the "headlamp won't close" issue. Window motors often use a motor driven worm gear which drives a round gear. The round gear if made out of plastic (as is the case with the headlight motor) could be the problem due to broken gear teeth.
I wish I had a picture of the motor assembly.
I have the same problem w/ my 99frc. Motor replaced once but problem has returned. I have got it working several times after it quits. Sometimes the fix
last for several days or weeks and sometimes just a couple of days. The temporary fix has never failed to get it working again but it's just not permanent. The fix is this: remove door panel, pull down the rubber looking access panel and find the motor, its high and toward the front (following wiring helps, with ignition key on bang fairly hard on the motor while holding the window button down. Someone working the switch from the drivers door will make it easier or you can just take the switch out of the door panel and hook it to the wiring and do it yourself. Its like the motor gets stuck and the bump gets it going again. I fixed mine again yesterday afternooon. Try it. It works, just wish i knew how to make it permanent.

Just had my '99 FRC into dealer yesterday. Found out one week ago that both my windows would not operate. Because I rarely put the windows down I do not know when both went out....but could not get either to operate even after checking/using forum advice. Dealer replaced regulators/motors on both sides. According to dealer printout, the driver's side stuck in auto down after replacement of motor. They then also replaced the power switch assembly and noted that driver weatherstripping cut in front of it (window?). On left side, they replaced motor regulator only. So far both windows are operating normally. Also, had to replace the driver's side door lock module which wasn't working for past week. Fortunately, I have extended warranty, but still had to pay $500 of parts/labor not covered. :(
Well I checked my DIC codes last night, and found nothing. I also tried slamming the door while holding down the window button... No dice. I may remove the door panel and try the big bang theory on the motor as Seamoore has suggested. I'll le you know the outcome! Anyone know the price of these durn motors?
