Traded my '92 coupe because at 21000 miles it had a major leak in the front of the engine. Now my 2002 coupe with 9000 miles has a leak from somewhere in the back of the car. Looked under the rear and don't see any oil coing from the area of the axels. Some where near the left top of the rear end. Does any one have the same problem or know of a problem with the c-5's? Not a major leak but enough to drip on the garage floor every month or so....whipped it down but don't see where the fluid is coming from!!! Any help out there? Will take it to dealer in the fall!!! $47,000 for another dripper!
Other than this, I Love it!!  :chevy
Two things rear diff leak common on all C5, take to the dealer trip. Or you broke a tranny seal like I did. Trip to the dealer is needed for both. Does not matter what year the c5 or mileage it happens on all of them eventually.

Re: rear end leak? (Neil Baker)
I've had the rear of my coupe leak twice now - first time they replaced the axle seal. Now they are going to replace the cover on the left side of the differential. Hope this solves the problem.
If you have to much fluid in the differential, it can vent from the pressure vent located on the top left side. It may be that you just need to adjust the fluid level.
If you call around, you just might find a dealer that is capable and more importantly willing to fix it.
Just had mine fixed, Both half shaft seals and diff cover gasket replaced at 10K. Leaks were both nuisance leaks with just two to three drops on the floor weekly.
I have recently noticed the leak from the rear, maybe 2 weeks now. It is like "mozart" said, a nuisance leak right now. Any speculation on how long it stays a nuisance leak and when it comes time to damaging things?
I was going to drive down to the East Coast Corvette Challenge tomorrow, about a 550 mile roundtripper not to mention as many 1/4 mile runs as possible before losing.
I am under GMPP but all the dealers here will void my warranty (so they say) if I were to bring my "hypothtecially modded" car with 24,000 miles in (see sig). I believe under GMPP you can take it to any, what is it ? Master Tech mechanic, I'll have to check.
:iagree: For what it's worth, had my first leak at around 3,000 miles (I smelled the diff fluid)... dealer made three passes & finally fixed the leak with some "new- improved" goop/sealer from GM. No problem, so far, but as common as the probem is, it's something I'll always keep an eye (nose) on.
Bueno Suerte!
Just noticed my first leak about 30 minute ago, a quarter sized spot on the garage floor. Car has 10K miles. The spot is the consistency of a light weight oil, and is fairly clear. Is this rear end fluid or transmission fluid?
Will get it to the dealer this week. This was a timely thread for reference purposes.

Re: rear end leak? (RJ's 002)
I had my previous 2001 Coupe in twice for the differential leak, my new 2003 AE Coupe is now leaking with only 3,800 miles and Mary's Z06 is leaking for the THIRD time within 10,000 miles. GM needs to fix this PITA as it is very annoying to say the least.
I am on my second C5..This one an 03' Z06..I had the 01 done twice until I read an article on this forum about a year ago and it said that:
Bowling green was using too much rear fluid and some was coming out of the vent on the top left side...If it is leaking on the driver side check to see if that is what the problem is before you have a "CHEVY" dealer drop your left side and start screwing around with your dream car..remember those same guys are doing work on Cavaliers and Malibu's and Geo's..
It has happened usually under heavier driving conditions and hotter temps.
Mine was fine until it hit 94 and humid here in NY this week. Give it some time and look into it before you go running to a dealer....This forum and our experiences are at times better info and more reliable info than the dealer..

Could be either one, but is probably differential. Reddish color?
