Is there any way to check the fluid level? I noticed it on a very hot day initially but parking in the garage overnight there is consistently a qtr. brownish spot from the center area. I haven't gotten under there yet to see if I can identify location, car has 24,000 miles.
I guess it is time to put my GM service manuals to work.
My Z leaked once so far on driver's side of rear diff. Dealer fixed under warranty with the new "goop." Wife's vert is now leaking on drivers side diff. for the third time. It's going in on Friday.
Hi, I hope I can help. I have a 99 hardtop with 45000 on it now. I had approx 19000 when I had my oil change. My mechanic told me I had a rear end leak but it was not dripping on my floor it was coming from the top of the back end. I went to chevy and was told that it is a coomon problem and was fixed under warranty. All new gaskets and seals were replaced
Had the same problem with my 98 coupe. It turned out to be the vent valve on top of the traney left side was clogged and cause the diff to pressurize and blow diff fluid past the seal on the left side. Remove the vent cap, cleaned tub with small piece od wire to ensure venting process, reinstalled vent cap and haven't had a problem since. Dealer MX told me about this procedure so I drovie the car, then remove the service plug and listen for escaping air. This proved that thevent valve was blocked. Backed up everything the mechanic said.
I just read our post message in Corvette Forum. I have a 99 Convertible with 9600 miles on it and have a leak in the differential. You said you had a leak that was fixed under warranty. Was that because the car was still ubder the OEM waaranty or because GM recoignizes they have a problem.
