During the past 4 weeks I think I have isolated a squeak to my right side roof relaese lever. Has anyone had the same situation, can one use some sort of lube? Thanks
If you use a silicone spray be careful not to get it on any glass. Went to the dealer for a water leak and they sprayed silicone on the seal. It got on the windshield and it wont come off. They are talking about replacing the windshield now.
 Ouch, just for the spray? They might just be trying to get some extra change from you. Scrubbing doesn't work, huh? Maybe a razor blade could be used to carefully scrape it off? Just a thought, cost $1500 to replace an out of warranty windshield :(
A common solution is to adhere some small pieces of velcro, the soft side, in between the striker and the plate. Of course, that is more for a rattle problem then a squeak, but it is pretty much one in the same. I am having issues with my visors squeaking at the moment. Silicon spray seems to be the way to go. I will have to be careful not to get it on the glass though!!!
You can also adjust the rear latch (i.e. use an allen wrench to loosen the set screw on the J-hook...make one clockwise turn on the hook and then re-tighten the set screw). This will make the top a bit tighter when you relatch the top.
I will tell you that I was going nuts with a squeak/creak in the top for about a month. I did everthing (i.e. used silicon grease, adjusted the front latches, etc.). I must have removed the top at least 50 times trying to track down the squeak/creak. I finally found the problem. It was the leather boot on my six speed shifter that was causing the noise. The ring at the top of the leather boot was shaking against the shifter shaft. I took a little silicon grease to the shaft of the shifter and used a little leather lotion on the boot and the noise went away.
