Default Coolant Surge Tank

Anyone how long it takes for the coolant in the surge tank to circulate itself into the radiator? Today I just siphoned almost a gallon from the surge tank instead of draining the rad (just lazy) I plan to do this periodically to keep the coolant somewhat fresh. It is really easy to do.

Draining the system is easy too. There is a drain plug at the bottom of the radiator - just turn and out it comes. I just did this at 5 years/40K miles. The coolant looked great.

Don't know the answer to your question but I would guess several cold-hot-cold cycles.

Don't know, I would think it would take several heat/cooling cycles.
How often do you do this?
Draining the radiator would be preferred, that way you have a chance at clearing the radiator of possible sludge and other gradu, but you're method is better than just ignoring it untill it leaks or overheats.
Are you using a 50/50 mix back in the tank?

Yup...50/50 back in. It is such a quick method...no mess, no jacking, no after flush run procedure, no possible air entrapment ect, but of course not a complete drain. Most say here after time, no sludge in rad drain anyway so....

I'd go ahead and do it right, pull the plug and drain it completely !

I would do a drain and flush.. You don't have to jack the car to drain it. I did mine without lifting it.
