I recently changed the 5th bow seal on my 99 and adjusted it where it just clears the tonneu at the top and side seams as reccomended. It fits very tight now. Lots of tension, yet there seems to be more wind noise then there was before. Could I have it too tight? Should I have used some weatherstrip grease? Any advice? It is very tight because it is hard to straighten out the top bow after the back touches when I latch it down. I just kept tightening it down trying to get it where only a credit card would fit under the top. It got to a certain tightness and would not get any tighter no matter how much I turned the adjustment rods. I think I will try loosening it. Any thoughts?
Re: another convert. top adjust question (BackSpacer_C5)
I had the weatherstrip on the 5th bow replaced on my Vette with the improved design. Previously, the top sat too close to the paint surface. With the revised weatherstrip, it sits higher - about 1/4" to 3/8" clearance.
You may be putting too much tension on your top if the cloth wrap at the 5th bow barely clears the painted surface by the thickness of a credit card. I would back off the tension and let the 5th bow sit a bit higher.
