Default Seat Recall?

I recently heard that there was a recall for the seats in 97-00 corvettes due to the wearing on the side of them. I'm just wondering if this is true or not. Mine is a 98 and has the wearing on both the driver and passenger seat by the door where you rub when you get in and out. Can anybody confirm this for me? I just want to try and find out before I call the dealership tomorrow and ask them. Thanks

Jason

Never heard of it. There may be a TSB out on it, but I've never heard of any kind of campaign from GM to replace the seats due to accelerated wear.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but hope it helps.

Have a good one,
Mike

there was never a seat recall, but you could get the bolster replaced... as a wear item while under warranty.. the backbone of the seats caused wearing of the bolster... I replaced mine.. but before I put it in.. I smoothed out that sharp edge in the backbone and covered it with some dense foam so it wouldnt happen again.. very common problem

I think they should replace the whole damn seat, my little handle that releases the back of the drivers broke off and the adj aparatus is bludging out somewhat next to the door.

There won't be a recall. I had the TSB applied to my car and the new/improved seat cover seems to be holding up just fine. My dealer replaced both seat back covers (for free) based on the TSB.

I hear most dealers will only do it with in the first 12 months or 12,000 miles. Mine did it a month before the factory warranty expired and I don't believe extended warranties cover these items.

Jason:

Here's the supporting TSB regarding the premature seat wear:

Make : CHEVROLET Model : CORVETTE Year : 1998
Service Bulletin Num : 990850010 Date of Bulletin: JUL 01, 1999
Component: SEATS
Summary:
VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO VIN BREAKPOINT X5116322 MAY EXHIBIT PREMATURE WEAR OF LEATHER MATERIAL ON BUCKET SEATBACK BOLSTER. *TT

You should try to have the whole driver's seat replaced as I noticed the motors don't track straight fore/aft. The passenger seat may just be re-covered. Also check your dual climate... I didn't see a display from it. Might as well make good use of that extended warranty!
