My 99' 6-Sp with all the bolt-on mods has had it's computer programmed with the Hypertech unit for the last 2 years. I used their engine tune parameters as well as to set the fans to come on earlier. In anticipation of a Vette Doctors Dyno tune, I uninstalled the Hypertech and brought the computer back to it's stock configuration. After driving for about 100 miles I'm convinced the car drives better and FEELS FASTER. Is this possible or could this be in my head?
It has been mentioned previously that the Hypertech is good for resetting fans and not much else. People have reported on this forum about losing power when installing their "performance" program and backing it up with a loss in power on the dyno. I'm sure the Vette Doctors will do a much better job!
I lost a tenth at the track with the hypertech tuning. I removed the hypertech tuning & kept only the higher redline & low fan temps. I picked that tenth back up on my next trip to the track. Not in your head. I will try the predator next, as my buddy picked up 2 tenths in his Z06. SCOTT
Re: Car Runs better without Hypertech (99 The Hard Way)
My experience with the Hypertech is just the opposite. My car responded well to their performance program. Picking up almost .2 and more than 2 mph in extensive 1/8 mile testing. I believe it has a lot to do with quality of gas in different areas. The factory program is optimized for 91 Octane, the HPPIII program is set for 93 octane. Testing was done on the same day on the same stretch of highway with almost identical 60 ft times.

I just got back from CO this weekend and they don't even have 93. I'm sure others will chime in on this. Also, when we had that big gas hike I was using the middle grade and couldn't tell any difference.
The owners manual for my '03 says you can run 87 as long as it doesn't ping. My programmer says there is a dual program in the PCM that allows for the lower octane.
