So, I finally got a ride in an A4 with the 3.42 upgrade - and now I know what I've been missing with my 2.73's. (Thanks Cary!)
I also want to do the torque converter at the same time. I've read the better brands are Yank or Vigilante. But they each have like 12 flavors to choose from.
I've also noticed prices range from $440 to $900 depending on brand, stall, etc. Do you really get what you pay for in this case?
So how do I decide what's best for me?
I don't track the car. I'd rather retain good driveability over max performance. I'm also concerned about keeping traction. I run Nitto 555's on the stock wheel.
I would suggest calling Mike at Yank and then posting your findings. I too, was in the same boat and still am. I ordered the Sy-3500 based on his and others recommendations but feel uneasy as I can not test it prior to install. (locally Vince offered a ride, but his mega-hp Vette is unsimilar to my daily driver ) http://www.converter.cc/frequently_asked_questions.htm and Yank has a factory garage sale this month so its 761.00 shipped, which even supporting vendors couldn't match !
What type of converter you select should be based on how you plan on driving your car. Give Mike at Yank or PI (Vigilante) a call and discuss your needs with them. They will help you with your selection.
Hey lotzahp, glad you liked my A4 (3.42) I will be interested in the gear/TC combo you decide on & sure would like another ride in your Vert after those mods. I'm going to wait on TC upgrade until after the Pro LGM/Borla LT Header install/retune (end of this month or next month) & LGM cam upgrade probably next March w/tax refund check.
BTW, did you receive the PICs of your Vert I emailed to you?
