Re: Chevy high performance red spark plug wires (footba4672)
how do these wires improve the overall performance of the car??
By adding 15 RWHP :jester
No, actually, they are just a replacement option for original wires - I believe they are slightly thicker (lower resistance) than the stock wires, but I wouldn't expect any performance improvement unless your existing wires are shot.
Re: Chevy high performance red spark plug wires (SEAMOORE)
I don't expect any performance increase. I just want the red wires to match other highlights in the engine bay. I've heard here that they are good wires and reasonably priced, about $50. It would be real simple to get them from the local dealer if i could come up w/ the number. They can't find them.
Will you make more HP over a good set of stock wires? probabably not.
What you do get is more longevity, silicon contruction to reduce heat damage and decay, and excellent attention to detail to avoid EMI.
Most manufacturers skimp on contruction to lower costs, and add coatings to enhance intitial performance and reduce EMI, and make claims of low resistance that are meaningless in high voltage situations. These coatings break down and cause arching within the wire windings, and greatly reduce its ability to deliver a spark properly. Dont be fooled by any claim, demonstraion, or result of resistance values of a spark plug wire. Remember that at high voltage 40KV+ the electrons shear out to the outer edge of the conductor in what is known as skin effect. They try to ride in the magnetic field surrounding the conductor. This is where contruction is key. And where you dont want coatings to break down. Simply using a volt/ohm meter on a wire is meaningless as to what happens in the real world of high voltage. Magnecor addresses these issues.
Re: Chevy high performance red spark plug wires (Flyin'Brian)
One advantage the GM PP wires have over Magnecor, is you can use the stock heat sheilds with them. I have both, but I am using the GM PP wires now
Bryan, actually the magnecor use the delco spark plug boot. I reused my heat shields on my magnecors, so I am wondering if you used something other than the KV85's ?
