i have a 2000 vert and when the tank gets to half way the guage goes to E
and the check guages light comes on...
any help on this????
thanks in advance!!!  :withstupid: :withstupid:
This is a common problem. Do a seach and you will find lots of posts. Try to run a fuel injector cleaner before you resort to the dealer for new senders. It has worked for me twice. I now have to run octane booster with every tank, no more problems.
The fuel guage gremlin finally got me, too... My 2001 dropped from 1/4 to E last night. It wouldn't clear itself until I went to the gas station and filled up... about 1 minute after starting the C5 with a full tank, the guage went to "F" :mad  .
I am gonna live with it for now... I hear there is a TSB for a "reflash". I bet that program "slows" the guage response time to prevent these "hiccups". IF that doesn't do it, you gotta get new fuel level sensors.

:iagree: Many, many posts on this. Do try the fuel system cleaner before taking the car to a dealer.
thanks for the advice!!!
so far amazingly enough the problem cleared up on it's own!!!
that really baffles me!!!
i didn't do anything at all....
but i am sure it will happen again...hopefully NOT!!!
if it does i will try the f.i. cleaner

Don't get too excited mine comes and goes. It hit me while traveling in "no mans land" across Southern Ca. We stopped at a viewpoint and the gauge came alive. 5 minutes leter it dropped. We stopped for lunch and a fillup. I put 6 gallons in it and an hour later it dropped to empty. Ok, I refilled, reset trip OD "B" to track mileage, everything was fine for many days, the boom "E". I added Techron fuel cleaner and it seemed to bring it back... Well 175 miles later it dropped to "E", did the Techron thing again. No problem for 3 refills over 14 gallons, then boom dropped to "E".
I had it show 1/4 of a tank solid, and put 17.4 gallons in it. A touch close for me.
I now use Trip B to monitor my mileage, when I get close to 250 miles I refill.
I read everyone's posts and thought I would share mine. Twice I experienced the same problem. The first time after refilling it up it worked for a few more fillups and then yesterday while at a stoplight it went to "E" after being about 1/3 full. With my '87 I regularly used Marvil Mystery Oil and that had 198,000 miles no engin work what so ever so I figure no problem here. Concluding that the sulphur issue was simply one regarding friction I added 8oz of Marvil Myster Oil to the 1/3 tank last night. This morning after driving about 8 miles (my 2000 c5 is a daily driver) the gage started reading properly again. Perhaps this is a solution for everyone. I will keep everyone updated.
