Belt Squeak Finally Fixed!!

Belt Squeak Finally Fixed!!
After three months the vette is no longer squeaking. The squeaking would stop after running the car for about 15 minutes. It would also squeak at full throttle.
Things that didn't work:
- First, I applied belt dressing (don't do this made it worse)!
- Second, dealer replaced the ac and serpentine belts with OEM belts
- Third, replaced tensioner and idler pulley
Finally the fix:
- Removed OEM belts...used simple green on all belt surfaces...scrubbed with brush.
- Replaced OEM belts with Goodyear Gatorback!
I had some problems with the ac belt replacement. I needed a friends help with this one. He was under the car with a wrench on the ac tensioner while I slipped on the belt from above. It was very hard to get a wrench on the tensioner belt from above. Otherwise, a very simple maintenance job. I should have done it the first time and saved myself $150 :mad
But now its :party: time.
Hope this helps someone with the same problem.

Thanks for the info. I've got the same symptoms you do, just haven't got around to fixing it. Sounds like a set of gatorbacks are in my future.
BTW, when you say you used simple green on all belt surfaces, was that the metal surfaces you're referring to? Also, was that to get rid of the belt dressing mess?

I used Simple Green on all pulleys after removing the OEM Belts and scrubbed with a toothbrush. Then I rinsed with water. Hope this helps.

On a related note....recently I installed an underdrive pulley and the required new belt sizes. When the change was complete my squeek was gone as well. A benefit that I wasn't expecting. Not sure why it stopped by hey...I'll take it. :D

where did you purchase, a forum vendor ?? Goggle cannot seem to track one.
**also Goodyears site shows that all Corvettes use 4060798 and by the belt number thats 79 inches and 8/10's of an inch wide , your using a belt only 2/10's of a inch wide on the altenator ??

Please discribe your squeak. I'm getting a squeak when I first take off from a dead stop. Is this what your hearing?
Can't tell if it make any noise while driving. Can't hear it over the road noise.
