Default Crazy electrical problem going on....

Fog lights go on in front when I step on brakes.

Service traction control pops up off and on. When it does I loose TC.

My euro rear lights only light up in amber when brakes are pressed (is this normal? I wasn't like that previous)

When I try and arm alarm, horn goes off and it won't set.

When the car is parked, key out, the warning bell goes off when I step on brake.

I know there have been issues in the past with euro tail lights. I took apart the rear assemblies, and they look very dirty, and spliced together rather than solid mounting hardware.

I'm wondering if getting a whole new wiring set for all my rear lights would help. What else can I try, its bugging the hell out of me.

Check the pcm and bcm grounds, buy or at least try to repair the euro tail harness and make sure the pcm doesn't have a leaky battery above it or coroded terminals.

You mentioned euro rear lighting, are the fog lamps you mention the rear fog lamps-Europe?

Have the lights been working properly before? If so, sounds like a short.

No - when I press the brake, the front fog lights go on, and the amber driving lights go off. That is - if I have the fog light switch turned on. If I have the front fogs turned off, then the fog lights stay off.

PCM under the glove box? Ill check the battery.

The fog lights, traction control, and stop lamps, all use a common ground (Circuit 150). A short to ground might cause an interplay among these systems. Pressing on the brake may be the voltage supply  .

I would check the wiring and splices on that rear euro light assembly for shorts to voltage/ground.

Sorry, not much help, a shot in the dark.

After several trys to fix my  electrical problems when my breaks went out (I have euro's). The only fix was a new harness for the euros. I could wiggle the harness and they would work for a while, but then they would go out.

I did not have the exact problems you are having, but everytime I would step on the break pedel my dash would go out , my headlights would go out, the hud would dim etc.

No problems for about 6 months. Hope this helps.

Yes my dash dims when I hit the brake. Its never gone completely out, but it sounds like the same problem.

:mad :mad :mad :mad

I am so freakn sick of this stupid @#$#@$#@#@$#@$ - I swear I can't figure out what the hell is going on. Its always some stupid little thing with this stupid car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sigh..

I can't figure out what the hell is going on with my elec. system, and all the wires and such are so flipn thrown together back there, I don't see how any reasonable person could check anything anyway. All the harnesses seem fine. I can't find a wire open or broken or anything. You could spend weeks tracking all the damn wiring back there!

I think I'm just going to buy all new wires for the back of the car, and have someone install them. I haven't a clue how it all is routed anyway. How do you go about this. I mean is the whole harness for the brakes, tails, sides, and rev lights all together or what? Or do you buy the pieces and fit them together?

My car is going to sit now for a week. My oil pressure is all messed up, coolant temp is too damn high, and I had a cop pull me over last night to tell me my brake lights light up funny. NO FREAKN CRAP! Screw this damn car I need a brake.

In the mean time, if anyone has any more ideas, let me know thanks.

Sections of the harness should be available as separate items. Access to a service manual specific to your year car will be very helpful. For example, the 2003 manual has over 1500 pages devoted to wiring and electronics.

Manuals are available from Fichtner Chevrolet (see link) or there should be an address in the back of your owner's manual.
