Default Sound Deadner

Has anyone used any type of sound deadner in there car. While I love the sound I also like to roll up the windows and speak on my phone since I use the car for business. Thoughts ideas?

I have some dynamat extreme under the carpet in the trunk, over the wheel wells and behind the seat. Over the wheel wells produced the most decrease in sound. I don't have any decible numbers to back it up, but I did notice a seemingly quieter highway ride. I have thought about adding it to the doors but haven't gotten to that yet. I have never had any of the "asphalt" scent I've heard others complain about. I went with the extreme to avoid any temp problems, plus it's easy to install.

dynamat extreme is good stuff. a little on the heavy side and somewhat costly to us cheap bastiches :)

If one has a high-powered stereo or a loud aftermarket exhaust; the dynamat extreme may be needed since it is denser.

Skip the frost king...... get the real stuff. If you ask in the audio forums, many have tried the frost king and were not satisfied. This on the otherhand will knock it down 9db or 8 times quieter.

Do a search on articles by "Evil-Twin" he was the originator of this mod and his material was two sided aluminum foil with small buble wrap inbetween. It was carried at Lowe's and worked well. Maybe 1/4 " thick but very effective for sound and at no extra charge, it will also reduce interior heat especially inthe tunnel area between the seats.

You should also look into some of the other barrier materials from Cascade Audio. The spray on stuff does not work as well as the barrier mat type insulators. As I understand it a three layer mat works best. You have and open cell layer acting as a decoupler b/w 2 closed cell layers.

Skip the frost king...... get the real stuff.

someone here showed a pic of a material (I think it was made by Cascade) that was identical to the FK product... even the same thickness. They're probabably made by the same manufacturer.
from a post on the LS1 forum:

... I went to Lowes looked over my shoulder and cut off a little piece. It is exactly the same as cascade mat.

I guess this makes it "real" ???

Also there is about 15 stories on this forum (and on LS1 forum) from those that used it and were very pleased with the FrostKing. It is low density so not suited for high wattage stereo applications. But for the average Joe that wants to inexpensively quiet down a stock Vette; it works well... unless everyone lied about the results?

If money and weight increases were no worry... the more dense offerings will provide better dampening.

The Reflectix is light weight as well.

read about others experience:
I just did this to my car and cut the noise in half, LITERALLY! Go to HomeDepot or Lowes and pick up 5 (I only used 4) of these:Frost King

click here: post #1 of many

and here is another user of the Frost King:
I installed the Frost King duct insulation in my car today. I ended up using 5 rolls. Took me about an hour to get the entire interior out, 2... The insulation sticks and conforms easily to the metal. The interior NOISE is significantly reduced.

full text here: post #2 of many

if you understand how "dampening" works; any product that is dense and adhesive backed will lower the resonate frequency of a surface and inhibit it's ability to vibrate (keeping it from passing the sound from one side to the other).

A good way to reduce the NVH inside your car is to replace those awful runflat tires with something else.

I was considering sound deadening material until I put some new tires on. I can now listen to my radio and talk to the person next to me without shouting.
