Hurst shifter, should I install one???
I've heard alot of talk about the "Hurst Vibration". I am sure the cases related here on that topic are all genuine, but perhaps rare.
Case in point: Being indecisive as well as **** retentive, I have tried at least a half a dozen different shift ***** on my Hurst since I got it over a year ago. Regardless of **** - MGW, Extreme, Kirban Billet, Stock, Momo, etc - Ii never experienced vibration. As someone related earlier in this thread, it may be specific vehicle dependent rather that shifter brand dependent.
I love mine. Go with the Hurst!

One word, get the "Ripper" :steering:
:D
I would love to know what you did to avoid vibration. I have tried everything, various adjustments, weights, tape, sound deadening material, MGW ****...you name it. Still everytime I get it on the thing rattles like crazy. Never did with the stock shifter. I really like the Hurst and have no plans to swap it out but I'd be a lot happier without the vibration.
So if you have some tricks for quiet please help us all and post them. If you can't post then please email me. I'd be greatful.

YES!
EZ Install, & Vast Shifting Improvement and DRIVING PLEASURE!
E-mail me for some install tips, no tape, weights, etc. needed. I've installed 18 Hurst for friends in So. CA. I don't claim to be an "expert", but I can give you some tips if you are going to DIY.

The problem is that the ****'s threads are to lose on the shaft. Put some electrical tape on clockwise and let it extend beyond the top of the shaft. This is so that when you screw the **** on it will bottom out on the tape that you left protruding above the shaft. This should stop the rattle. If the electrical tape is to thick try plumbers teflon tape. Good luck a let us know the results.
Its one of the best mods I've done to date. I wrapped mine with a bit of electrical tape to help the momo shift **** stay tight. Haven't had any problems with rattling or anything else.

So it's not the **** that's rattling? Maybe you've lost the springs or stops that screw into the housing? What exactly is rattling?
Tom's problem is just like mine. Perfectly quiet stock, Instal hurst, get on it and the rattel will rive you nuts' I've done the adjustmrnt tape routine routine. Also screw adjustment unhelpful
Any suggestiohs. I am a bout to go back in again remove the sounde deadener and screewsk springs aall togrert

I have done it all. I have an overprices solid aluminum ball on the top of the shifter now, in order to eliminate the possibility that the OEM shifter handle was loose and allowing the plastic insert to rattle. I have taped the threads like crazy with teflon tape, to the point I couldn't thread the ball, and had to back off a little!
I have put an AMAZING amount of sound deadener under the shift boot (it poofs UP now) in order to try and quiet it down.
It is barely tolerable. I debate going back to stock anytime anyone rides in the car with me, then change my mind the next time I have to make quick 2-3 shifts...
