Ocassionally I will use the Cruise Control ( only in cases when I'm mellow and not feeling the need to terrorize my fellow a-hole Boston drivers)
A couple of times when I tap the brake to disengage it, the brakes drag. It gets to the point that they heat up and I can smell them. If I pull over and shut down for a few minutes all is well.
The first time it happened I didn't make the cruise control connection. The second time I got concerned.
Now the Cruise doesn't work at all. While I can live with that ( I hate to lay the car up at the dealer), I wonder if any of you had similar experiences.
As far as I know the only connection between the cruise control electronics and the brakes is a switch on the brake pedal. If that switch is constantly closed the cruise will not work.

I have a hunch that the dragging brake pedal is not related to the cruise control. I had to have the brake booster in my '01 replaced because of a dragging pedal. There should be a TSB out on this. Hopefully you are still in warranty. It is kind of expensive if you are out. I would take it to the dealer and let them check it out.
I do have an extended warranty, so if it's the booster fine, just hate to leave it.
I'm going to try an experiment where I tap the brake pedal WITHOUT the cruise on to see if I can get it to drag.
Should have thought of this earlier.
As the others have said, there is no way the CRUISE CONTROL can drag your brakes. The CC does not use the brake for anything. The only connection is a switch on the pedal to tell the CC to shut off when you hit the brakes, but the CC doesn't tell your brakes to do anything.
If your brakes are dragging that seriously, you should go to the dealer anyway. IMHO.
Brakes are not dragging now, they haven't for a while, but, I guess if the pedal hasn't fully returned then the switch may not be made, cancelling the cruise.
