Default Had to redesign the Vararam

When installing the intake ducts today I bolted them together with the V Plate.. Well when I reinstalled my Radiator Shroud It pushed the ducts up a little higher..It also broke the mounting hole at the top of one of the ducts.

I got to thinking how thin the plastic is here and it should be reinforced with something thicker than 1/16" plastic. I mean the hole sits like 1/8" inch from the edge..

Here is a pic of the damage

These strips are the same material as the Vararam. I will use ABS GLue to adhere these to the rear side of the flange. This strip is at least 2 to 3 times thicker.

Here are the 1/8" ABS reinforcing strips next to the V Plate. One these are glued on I will drill them out using the existing holes for a template

Patrick if you read this..I'd be more than happy to explain what happened.

I can't wait to get it all buttoned up.. :smash:

I have not heard of that happening before. I've done the VR install about 3 times and I never had this problem. Are you sure that you had the scoops mounted to the bumper correctly and did you shim it correctly?

Actually It happend when I pushed the Radiator shroud back in. It pushed the scoops up a little too far... I almost died when I saw what happened...

But it's pretty obvious that the plastic is too thin to handle any pulling..

The ram tubes are designed to flex off the scoops a bit. That is why they are only riveted to the tops of the scoops. I agree that the plastic is thin in the V-Strip are but I've never heard of this issue. Are you sure that the scoops are mounted correctly to the fascia with all three screws (Two inside one outside)? Did you shim the scoops correctly? Maybe you tighened the V-strip too much and cracked the plastic when you tightened it. This would explain why it split when the shroud moved it up a bit. The V-strip uses lock nuts and it does not need to bit too tight.

Let me know how it works out.
