run the cord along the top of the roof liner to the passenger side footwell, and then wire it to the accessory wiring harness that is provided from the factory .........should be in the owner's manual :yesnod:
Buy a "hardwire kit", maybe at a local "Best buy", then tap into the proper wire underneath the dash that becomes "live" when the car is started. I have this setup in my car but can't recall what wire I tapped into. I'll look tomorrow and post again. Good luck! :seeya :seeya
In the passenger side footwell - take off the panel and look to the upper left. There should be a trio of wires jammed in there; yellow, orange, black. All ready for you to tap into for power. If I remember, black is ground, yellow is switched on, orange is always hot. You can tell with a voltage meter -
Most cords on radar detectors won't reach from a good mounting location to the passenger footwell, so instead of cutting the cord and splicing in more wire, I bought an inexpensive ($.99) female receptacle at Radio Shack. You simply plug the end of the cord into this. Then its easy to run two wires from this and connect to the black and yellow wires. If you ever move the detector from the Vette to another car, you still have the male plug that goes into the cigarette lighter socket. :yesnod:
I hard wired mine into the rearview mirror and it comes on and goes off with the key. The shop manual will help out with the connections. It only takes 6" of wire and the detector views the rear window from right under the mirror.
