I just bought a Passport G-Timer GT2 from TL electronics. It appears to be a fun tool to use to track changes between mods. I will be taking it to the track this weekend to validate its accuracy. Here is the product description:
Bought mine a couple of weeks ago... I've been having a blast with it. FYI - I mounted mine in front of the speedometer instead of the windshield... fits great there. Have fun.

Good idea, I will have to try that out. Do you have any tips on it's use?
Not sure any this will help, but here's the parameters I am using (for my totally stock 2003 50th Anniv coupe, 6-speed, 3.42):
wieght 3500
pitch .3
roll 2.0
min speed 55
max speed 70
HPdriveloss 0
HProll resist .013 (maybe 0.13???)
DragCDA 6.200
trigger .10
I have no idea how accurate my results are, but I know they are consistent. A good run (quick launch, speed shift, etc) results in a good time... bad run, bad time. Most of my street 1/4 mile runs are in the 13.5/107 mph range. My best is 12.97/109.5 (on a 56 degree morning), but I doubt I actually ran a sub-13 time on my stock coupe.
I'd like to hear how accurate your track times compare this weekend (and the parameters you use). Good Luck!
I've been using the G-TECH PRO for about 6 months, it's a nice little toy
What can it do?
The new G-TECH/Pro Performance Meter COMPETITION is a very sophisticated, cutting edge automotive tuning instrument. Weather you want simple RPM recording or complete Data-Acquisition. As an automotive enthusiast you will find recording acceleration runs and analyzing shift points, delivered horsepower and reaction times extremely valuable. Just imagine, having all that power of knowledge right there under your fingertips any time you want it, that's the new G-TECH/Pro COMPETITION. Re: Just bought a Passport G-Timer GT2 (BQuicksilver)
I looked at the online user manual for both the G-Tech Pro and the G-Timer (GT2 model) and what sold me on the G-Timer was the apparent ability to fine-tune the settings for your car.
With the G-Tech Pro I am a little skeptical on measuring accurate engine RPM's through the electrical static detected in the 12V accessory plug. Also in the G-Tech user manual there are 3 pages of FAQ that give me indication of potential problems with the unit. However I do believe the G-Tech is a good unit and will work great.
I just decided on the G-Timer to test it out. I will post my experiences with it after a few runs at the track this weekend. The G-Timer is also sold through one of our forum vendors (TL Electronics). I've always had great service with them.
Bgood,
I've been toying with purchasing the G Tech Competition for a couple weeks now. I think I'll browse for a dealer today or tomorrow. I'll have to trade some stories with you so I can learn more about the two.
Thanks for the thread!
I was thinking about the G tech - but I like the small design of the G-timer. Post results. The G timer would look nice mounted around the gauge clusters with a connection running to the fuse box instead of the cig. lighter.
Re: Just bought a Passport G-Timer GT2 (BQuicksilver)
Can you hardwire the G-Tech or G-Timer in a manner similar to the V1 hardwire?
I'm not sure about the G-Tech, but the G-Timer has an optional accessory listing for a permanent mounting bracket and direct wire instructions listed on page 31 of the user manual. Here is the user manual: http://www.escortstore.com/gt2manual.pdf
I purchased the GT2 a couple of weeks ago. It is fun taking turns and seeing you push .9+ G's :)
Anyway, I went to the track with my friend (Route 66 Raceway in Joliet Illinois) and I brought my G-Timer along (i did not drive). He put it in his Type-R, and on average he was .05-.1 seconds off 1/4. He tested it it four times and those were the results (normally it showed him a little slower than the actual track times he got). Not to bad for something that is plug and play.
For those of you who have it, what 60" and 0-60 times do you get? I keep going on the expressway late at night and testing. I have gotten a 2.05 60" and a 4.77 0-60 time. Mind you I have less than 1500 miles under my belt for manual and this is done on concrete with 30PSI in the rear tires...
Also, what do you normally slip the clutch at to get better 60" times (on the street)?
Re: Just bought a Passport G-Timer GT2 (PepperdineZ06)
I've made about 20, 1/4 mile street runs... 2.07 (60') and 4.65 (0-60mph) is my best so far. That run was early one 55 degree morning on the way to work (who would have thought driving to work could be so fun!). Funny thing though, my next best 0-60 time is 5.00 seconds (and I've done that several times). I'm not sure how you're supose to launch, but the GT2 definitely lets you experiment. I usually rev to about 2000 rpm and slip the clutch a little to keep from smoking the tires, but I'm at WOT pretty quick after that... and shift at 6000 rpm. Brings back 25 year old memories of "high school night" at Houston International Dragway... I still have 2 trophies from back then... thought my '71 LeMans Sport was quick. Feel like a teenager again. Have fun... I am!
