I have read about many issues in reference to Corvette batteries. In my 03 C5 I have a delco battery with the code 75P7YR ... Rumor has it the "P" indicates a modifed design to solve the leaking probelm. Is this true or should I pull it before damage occurs?
The corvette batteries to begin with are not the best ones. If they sit for even a short period of time, they crap out. Your better off putting in an Optima Battery and be done with it.
The battery in your 2003 should be a maintenance free Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) battery. The AGM battery was to address the problem of leaking electrolite on earlier model C5s.
There was a recent post on the Forum that indicated the 2004 Corvette had a top post (as opposed to a side post) battery.
I have a 2003, I plan on continuing to use the AGM battery, but I will also monitor its condition. You might search the archives for leaking AGM batteries but I don't think they are as much of a problem as the earlier models.
This is interesting, seems like GM may be converting from side post to top post in a number of applications. I rented a 04 Grand Prix this week, and noticed it has a top post Delco.
