hello, i know this is a stupid question but am new to this forum because i have only had mine for about 3 weeks, I recently installed a blackwing on my 2001 coupe 6 speed (mil yellow). i ordered a ghl exhaust with the quad 4" tips, I am looking at the magna flow x-pipe but am wondering what i will gain by adding it, it seems that everypne says to put one on but i dont know the rationale, Could somebidy make me less ignorant, thanks
Performance:
Installing a X pipe(dr.gas) directly after a set of long tube headers will aid in exhaust scavenging. Increased exhaust scavenging will help and fill the combustion chambers more completely which will result in a engine that acts larger than it is....
Sound:
An X pipe in the exhaust system will help even the exhaust pulses on both banks making the exhaust tone slightly smoother.

Performance wise they are usually good for a few horsepower and even people with stock manifolds hare reported gains. Sound wise it’s purely subjective, like catbacks. Some people like the sound but some don’t. I prefer the rougher sound and am willing to give up a few ponies to keep it. If the right sound is what you want then your best bet is to find someone with an x-pipe and listen to it yourself. Even if they have a catback other than a GHL you should be able to tell the difference in sound the x-pipe makes
thanks so far for the good info, are you saying that the x-pipe will even ou the tone more or make it throatier? or does it make a difference on which one you use? would you suggest that i install one while i am changing my exhaust, i figured while it was in the air, i would put the cags defeat thing on also. thanks again, I feel alot better owning something that i know nothing about as long as i have you guys to tap into when i feel dumb!
The difference in sound is probably most noticeable at idle. With the stock h-pipe you can almost count the individual exhaust pulses. The x-pipe will give it a more blended sound. I’m not sure if the GHL’s have this trait but with my Corsa’s there is sometimes a popping sound on deceleration. The x-pipe will eliminate that sound if that’s important to you. Like I said the best way to judge it is to hear it for yourself.
The difference in labor whether you change it with your exhaust or separately should be minimal.
I haven’t heard that the location of the x makes any difference.
