If the fault is intermittent, it may be caused by poor connector mating, etc.
For a "current" fault, the service manual says to replace the EBCM.

The service manual had a procedure to determine if the fault is current. This procedure will require access to a scan tool as the scan tool runs an automated test to determine if the fault is current.
Is the ABS indicator ON?
Is the Traction Control indicator ON?
Is the red Brake warning indicator ON?
Are you getting service ABS, service Traction System, service Active Handling messages on the DIC?
Is C1248 also being set?
The "Uxxx" codes were set because a communications (data link) problem exists among the modules.
U1160 is the Driver Door Module (DDM)
U1096 is the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
U1064 is the Body Control Module (BCM)
U1016 is the Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
When reading the DIC, there is a number that precedes the "Uxxx". That number will help identify where the communication fault is.
