I really like tho look and the Perf. of the Z06 but because of a Knee injury I am unable to shift for long periods of time. Is it possible to order one in an an automatic. Is there any major reason why they cant do one as a special order?
Bring your car to me and we'll do a swap, your manual drive train for my automatic drivetrain
 Sounds like the best deal out there. If you can find someone to switch out the drivetrain you'd come out pretty good. I know a Z06 tranny conversion has been done before. There are some questions that need to be asked about PCM tuning on the car once the tranny is swapped. Doesn't LS1 Edit identify the car is an auto or manual by it's VIN? I'd post a number of questions in the Scan & Tune section for the LS1 Edit gurus.
I'm sure there are a number of A4 C5's that would like the Z06's M12 tranny.
Why don't you buy a regular Coupe and then throw an LS6 in there?
Better yet, why don't you buy a Coupe and put a blower on it. I have heard that a Coupe with a blower is much faster than a Z06. :lolg:
Actually, the Z has a better handling package. The engine differences are very minor. In fact, if you swap the LS1 cam for the LS6 cam, I think you would find, with no other changes, the LS1 puts out nearly identical HP numbers to the big bro LS6. It would be a good test. You know, I think I might try it.
unless you have plenty of extra cash, consider taking a regular A4 coupe and modifying it to the desired performance level. Unless you are very avid enthusiast and need the lighter weight.
Believe it or not, some people simply don't want to hassle with shifting. However, in this case the person who started the thread indicated that HE wanted to make the switch for medical reasons. :yesnod:
Also, if a person drives an A4 with a shift kit. . .it is very possible that person will never want a manual again! I was actually planning a M6 swap. . .I got the shift kit, and now I couldn't be happier! The shift kit let's the A4 play like a M6, but if the driver chooses, he/she can simply put the car in OD and the car will do the shifting!
Believe it or not, one of the main reasons I came over to the Darkside from Ford was the superior shifting (especially in straight line racing situations) of GM's auto tranny over Ford's AOD. I had a '97 Cobra and could not shift worth a hoot. And, as you get older (I know young squirts, you'll never going to be old!), as you race, just slapping it in Drive and mashing the accelerator is much easier and repeatable than rowing the gears hoping you do not miss a shift. I have not missed a shift yet!
When I was younger, the "stick" shifting deal was neat, but I found it grows old on you. It's all in your preference and the original poster had a damn good reason for it.
