Default Its a serious question shifter stops needed?

In another thread I'm running a poll re: do I need the Hurst shfter stops. I thought it would get quicker serious answer. BUt so far just one reply. I would appreciate input. I am trying to decide whether to button it up. Because I have so much sound deadening material under the console this not something I want to redo frequently.

I finally got tired of the rattling on my Hurst so today I completely removed the shifter stops. Most, if not all, the rattle has disapeared. I've read on this forum before that the Z06 transmission has internal stops and the Hurst stops are not necessary. Is this true or am I asking for trouble.
Oh and yes I had tried everything before, weights, tape, soundproofing, adjustments, you name it.

When I put my Hurst shifter in, I tried several settings with the shifter stops, and just couldn't see where they did much or why they would even be needed. So, I just took them out. I've noticed no problems at all. The only "rattle" I get is a sound at some lower rpm's that resonants up thru the stick.

I can definitely echo in agreement about not wanting to take the console off and any sound insulation repeatedly. I re-did my sound insulation once, and then took it off for a third time to adjust & center the shifter. Now, since it shifts so well, I ain't taking it apart to do any more sound insulation. I like the mechanical click of the shift.

But, I am thinking about pulling the carpet next spring and lining the whole darn thing with some sound and heat insulation, but that's got nothing to do with shifter noise, just a quieter ride.

I responded to your other thread, and I think you need them. See other thread.

a serious answer.......the stops are not needed....i removed mine all the way so there was no chance of them loosening and keeping it from going all the way into gear........toss them into the box and put it on the shelf

The t-56 tranny has internal stops, but you can still overextend the shift forks if you do some serious powershifting. That being said, the answer to your questoin in NO. You don't need to stops for street, road course, or occasional drag racing. IMHO I would put the stops back in if I was going to the strip 2x+ per month. If you adjust the stops right and use loctite you won't have problems at all and the stops will to their job

Oh yeah I forgot... I took mine out on the vette. They saved the trannies on my mustang.... notice I said trannies not tranny  (three to be exact)
