Re: vararam letting dust past through (chukzukisilver99)
Here's another silly question. Where's the best place to find the K&N filter for the Vararam VR1B? I did a little searching on the internet and couldn't find it anywhere.

To my knowledge, you can't buy it from anywhere except Vararam. When you get it, you'll see what I'm talking about.. it looks like Patrick makes them by hand.

I just ordered one from Summit Racing, but it's on backorder. Should have it in a week or two.
Re: vararam letting dust past through (66ImpalaLT1)
chuckster, It was very well oiled when I got it new. It was pretty much dripping out of the bag, but when I pulled it out sunday it was pretty dry.
Last night I cleaned the filter, dried it (in the dishwasher of all places). I re-glued all the places around the edges that were coming up, and this morning I oiled it very well.
I ordered K&N 33-2522, which was mentioned in another thread. It will be here next week, if it wont work I'll return it and order from Patrick.
Re: vararam letting dust past through (66ImpalaLT1)
I've been using a Vararam VR1-b for about 4 or 5 months now and have had one Torquemaster filter's seal come unglued, but Vararam sent me another free of charge :D. I was wondering though how often should it be cleaned? When I removed my first one after about a month and a half (1500 miles thanks to a trip), it was completely filled with dirt. I dont drive in a dusty region or anything. Any comments would be appreciated.
The Vararam filter should be cleaned about every 2-3K miles. I had the HP filter in mine but it too fell apart. So in the meantime I got the K&N from a local chain store. They had to order it but had it in two days. There was an initial hp loss after installing the K&N but, after the computer had time to relearn the airflow the car is almost as strong now with the K&N.

We all obviously like are vararams because we still have them but how many of you avoid dust clouds and dirt roads or driveways i know i do. Like someone said previously its a foam filter , clean it reguarly stay away from sandy places. Also i believe they offer a few choices of filters but i dont know if any of them are paper instead of foam. love my vr1b.
