Default New Engines time....

Ok here is the deal...

I have a 97 Vette that just hit 100k miles on it... Have to love driving it to get that many miles :hurray:

I am going in to get a 100k mile check up...

I want to do some major work on the car since I hit the 100k mark... the car is spotless and does not have 1 scratch, mark, dink... nothing...

I don't know which way I want to go... if I should have the current engine redone... get a crated new engine, a used engine from a wreked car... or pop in a Z06 engine...

What do you think? what would it cost to get a crated engine compared to a used engine... or should I just redo the engine that is on there...

I aslo want to put on the ram air, super charger, exhaust and wanted some support on which way to go and what to get....

So I guess I am asking should I rebuild the current engine? Buy a new crated engine? Buy a used engine with low miles maybe out of a damaged backend car.....

What would it cost to get a new crated engine...
:grouphug:

I'd have yours rebuilt with a forged bottom end. Put a new cam and freshen up your heads. Cost about the same as buying a new motor, but will be able to take more of a beating! A great start if you plan on going FI in the future

That's the way I'd go anyway

:iagree: Put new piston, rings, rods, heads, cam, headers, intake, you'll be the same price and your going to have more power

Got 106K+ on mine, just curious: why do you want to swap engines? Sounds like the car's doing for you now what it's done for the last 100K. If it's just a good excuse to do some mods (assuming internal), then sure, go for it! I would stay with your original engine, mainly because you know what's been done to it.

100K is just a number, like 25K, or 75K. Right now my families cars have 106K, 150K, and 202K, the Vette being the lowest miles. None use any oil to speak of, oil changes every 7500 miles or 4 months, whichever comes first, etc. Unless you've done something to hurt the engine, it'll go virtually forever before you have to do major work.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

I agree with Blackroadster.
Except, if you really are going to put on a supercharger, then I would choose the configuration that you want and then put in the pistons, rods, lower end, cam and heads recommended by the supercharger manufacturer. That way you will have a configuration that has already been tested and shown to work well.
