I also hate the smell!!!! DON'T DO IT!!! It is not worth anything. Upgrade to Hi-flow cats. That nasty smell will also kill your resale DON'T DO IT!!! DON'T DO IT!!! DON'T DO IT!!! DON'T DO IT!!! DON'T DO IT!!!
I have an off road x-pipe and it is great, you smell it sometimes, but not at all when your driving, unless your at a light with the windows down and the air is blowing your way. It gives you a lot more torque with the cats off and an off road x-pipe.
I can always put mine back on, just make sure who ever cuts them off does a clean job. I still have the exhaust section with my cats, so if I ever wanted, I could just weld it back in place. I also have a spare at a buddies I can use if I ever need to.
Try this test: put a hose in you stock cat equipped car exhaust and another in my un-cat exhaust...breath through yours and see how quick the poison kills you. Just as quick I imagine. Cigarettes kill a documented 1/2 mil a year...and thier legal, pot never killed anyone (government statistics from the CDC) and it is illegal. You believe without question every thing the gov says? My vehicle passed FL emmisions with flying colors with no convertors. Go figure. :mad

 Thanks for the info on passing FL emissions w/o Cats. I will soon be running w/o Cats, too.

Makes sense to me...
Damn there are alot of huggers in this thread. :smash: This has to be the most controversial thread topic of all time. :skep:
Will I need O2 sims if I go with Random hi-flo cats? Can I just toss the first cats on my 99 without throwing codes? Thanks!
Pre cats will have no effect. No sims needed with Random Techs....but LS1 edit can edit out the rear O2's. You need the fronts. Radom Tech cats will give near as good of performance as no cats, and still be legal!
With a big cam, it smells so bad that i have to turn the AC to recirculate when I come to a stop. High flow cats are waiting to go on.
Have you had the PCM tuned/reprogrammed since the cam install?? Maybe it's running too rich at idle - big cams have a tendency to do that (long duration, big overlap confuses O2 sensors).FWIW.
Thanks for answering my question, I was a little confused by the suggestion to drill the hole, figuring the computer should compensate by opening the throttle a little. He did say that he had to raise one of the parameters to the limit, I wish I could remember what that was, but he said since he had it raised to the highest value I would probably still benefit from drilling the hole since the PCM may not be able to compensate.
I have a feeling that the hole would help somewhat, I think at idle, or below 1,500 the PCM is fluctuating between closed and partially open throttle automatically because closed the engine doesn't get enough air anymore, but partially open it gets too much.
It does surge slightly when I'm in a taller gear below 1,500 RPM off throttle.
I didn't list all mods to the car because they are in my profile.
Any other thoughts on drilling the hole?
I'd appreciate it if thoughs who want to debate environmental issues start another thread, this has gotten way off my topic.
