I have a friend that has a 2000 c5. He had a bit of an accident where he lost control and smashed 3 rims. The computer told him he had a flat tire. He is replacing the 3 rims and wanted to know how the computer knows the tire was flat. Someone mentioned there might be sensors on the rim. I am doubtful of this. WOuld you guys give me a brief description of where this or any relevant sensors may be located? Thank you in advance.
Re: Active Handling/Ride control information (tonym)
The C5s that have extended mobility tires (aka, runflats) have an air pressure sensor in each wheel. When they get low on pressure, it will tell you. You can cycle through the "guage" pages on the DIC, and there will be one page with the LF and RF pressures, and another with the LR and RR pressures.
When your buddy is getting his rims replaced, make sure that they move the tire pressure sensors over to the new rim. If they don't keep the same sensors in the same relative position, he may have to go through a "relearn" process to tell it which sensor is in which wheel.
