Default Outside air sensor problem

Ok, here is my first repair question for the forum experts.

My outside air temp is reading minus 39 degrees on the interior console readout.

Im getting hot air blowing all the time and really hot when the AC is cut on. The auto system is trying to heat the interior based on the outside reading of minus 39 degrees.

The owners manual says the outside temp sensor is located in the front air intake. Does anyone know exactly where the sensor is and can it be easily replaced?

Do you have any DTC failures set? Low calculated temperature comes from high resistance in the sensor. It might just be unplugged or the connection has corrosion.

The ambient air temperature sensor is located on the right hand front of the engine compartment on the radiator support. Look forward of the horn assembly on the right hand side of the car.

There is a two element female electrical connection to the sensor. One wire is Light Green with a Black Stripe (Outside Air Temperature Sensor Signal), and the other wire is Gray with a Black Stripe (ground).

There is a push-in retainer that secures the ambient air temperature sensor to the lower right hand side of the radiator support.

If you are replacing the sensor, remember it must be oriented so that the sensor probe end is inboard and the electrical connector is outboard.

Below is a link to an earlier thread. There are some drawings that will assist you.

Had problem with mine - inside temp display was jumping all over the place. Checked connector and sensor for corrosion - none. Replaced sensor - 5 minute job - everything fine. Dealer had sensor in stock, $10.08 list, $9.77 actual. If connector or current sensor connections not corroded go for the new one.

Thanks for all the help guys.

However, I'm such an amuteur that Im still having trouble identifying the part.

There are three connectors resting at the bottom on top of the frame. One is a three wire connect, so I know thats not it. One of the others has a green wire and a yellow wire. The other has a green wire and a grey wire. They both look like the connect to the same black pipe. Its almost impossible to get my habd down tere past the alum tupe that is over it. The diagram you sent (couldnt enhance the resolution on it very much) looks like the sensor is attached with a screw, which I dont see.

There is also another connector that is higher up on the side of the system, but, it is wrapped in black tape, so I dont know what type of wires are there.

Get in front of the car, get down and look under the car where the air conditioner condenser (radiator) is. On the passenger's side you will see a little plastic covered "nub" that sticks out. That is the ambient air temperature sensor.

Open the hood and look down in front of the radiator on the passenger's side. The first connector you see is for your underhood light. Further down and forward is the ambient air temperature sensor.

Thanks to all who responded for the help. I finally found the sucker. It had come loose from where it should have been and I couldnt see it.

I pulled it apart and one of the pins was broken off and still in the female side of the connector. It was also very corroded.

Decided to take it to a specialty car shop for them to look at it. Mech. says both sides of the connector needs to be replaced and that will involve a little wiring. This is beyond my talents, so I'm gong to let him do it. He says it wont be more than $50.00 labor. Seems to know his stuff.

I asked him how a car with only 23k miles could have such a corroded sensor. He thinks that whenever the sensor came loose from its mounting, it must have tilted up allowing water to get inside and set up the problem.

Again, thanks for the advice.
