Default CAGS bypass failure

Found the reason for the CAGS bypass failure in my 99 coupe. The resistor was fried. Purchased from Mid America. Does anyone know the actual Ohm value of the resistor so I can replace it? Mine was burned enough to render the color bands unreadable.

Nevermind, that's what happens when you are busy at work and try to respond to a post. :crazy: When I saw "bypass" I thought you were referring to the "column lock bypass".

Really surprised it got that hot, I wonder, did you have the cable zip tied up out of the way, or could it have gotten close enough to the exhaust to overheat?

Or was the resistor too small size wise?

Resistor seems to have been too small. It was sealed in the dielectirc filler. The resistor was melted with no visible damage on the outside.

Hmm. With the resistor totally encapsulated, no way to radiate heat except through the wiring. Hadn't thought of that one before.

You need a 2.2 ohm and can get a package of five from Radio Shack for less than $2. That's what I did and it's been working great for three years.
