Default Mod Advice

First some background - I drive my Vette everyday as my primary veichle. I love to drive it hard but do not really race the veichle. When I go to the track, I much prefer a road course than a drag strip. My car has basically all the "Stage I" mods available - Vortex Air Rammer & Power Duct, 160 Deg. Stat & Relay, HotWires & Silverstone Plugs, X-Pipe, Stingers and Custom Tune. I haven't dynoed the car yet, but I must be close to 305RWHP because I've been running the following #'s (non SAE adjusted):

0-30 - 1.83
0-40 - 2.55
0-60 - 4.6
0-80 - 7.2
0-100 - 9.9

0-1320 ft (1/4 mile) - 12.80 @ 109.8
0-660 ft (1/8 mile) - 8.42 @ 87.5
0-60ft - 2.08

Temp - 83 Deg, Humid - 67, Press - 29.88, Alt - 150 Ft.

I want to do a few more mods to the car: I was thinking headers, cam, heads, Z06 Intake - Tony from Tony's Corvette shop said that I should not do this if I drive the car everyday and do not competitively race it.

I'm thinking LT Headers alone, but will this make a difference?

Also, maybe I could get rid of the run craps and get good tires and a Billstein sport suspension package to improve the handling. (the car already has the Hotchkiss bars).

Please some advice.

Cam and Valve springs would be a good way to go... It would still look stock on the outside, run well and have much more HP to play with too!! :)

Well, that all depends on what your willing to live with as a daily driver. Most people definitely think my cam (239/251 106 lsa) is too much for a grocery getter. I love it.

However, the LS6 intake (or one the newer ones to be out soon) is good, headers are probably better, and cam even better.

You can put together a 400rwhp car now with a modest cam, good heads, headers, and intake that would be completely streetable in my opinion. No rough idle, still good gas mileage, but runs like a **** at the track.

You have lots of options. Don't forget the superchargers are putting down some pretty impressive #'s on stock motors as well.

:iagree: Although if road racing is your thing, I would go with Vortech or ATI...something with an intercooler :yesnod:

Mine puts out good numbers and doesn't affect driveability at all. When you're not getting on it the engine doesn't even know it's there.

Be aware that some FI systems are subject to surging... It does not happen to every car and every system. On a Road course, surging is not your friend. :(

Theres nothing wrong with a good head and cam package for an everyday driver, just don't get to aggressive with the cam. Also, someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that GM got rid of the LS-1 intake in 2000 so some cars that year already have the LS-6 intake, so you might want to check on this before forking over $400 + dolars for a mod that won't give any improvement

How would I know if my car has the LS1 vs. the LS6 intake?

The 2001 models came with the LS6 intake; if any 2000 cars came with it as well, it would be the later models - unfortunatelly my car was delivered to the previous owner in Feb 2000, so I doubt I have the LS6 intake. Any thoughts? How can I find out for sure? The part number starts with 1255 not 8889 ('01-04 intake).

lt headers are good...i'm suprised you went with a vortex intake, they have a poor reputation with aftermarket MAF sensors.

~i'd say go with ported heads 2.05 / 1.60
~mild cam 222 / .566 / 112 should provide good power and run only slightly rougher than stock
~lt headers
~penske ride adj. shocks and possibly lower the car and inch or 2.

this should provide a good comprimise of power and stabilty for about $4-5k

Thanks for the advice. I will definetly look into it. I'm actually going to put Billsteins and a tougher front spring on the car. As much as I would love to lower the car by an inch; this is my everyday driver and not very practical here in the north east.
