I just traded my '96 T/A for a '98 c5, and compared to the T/A the c5 has no take off power. Is this normal or is there something wrong? It runs fine and has power after 2nd gear, but from a stop it's kinda gutless. Also how do I find out what options it has(gears etc.)? Where should I start modifing, headers or cat-back? It already has a Donaldson intake.
Any help would be greatly appreiciated.
Thanks, Joe
Re: first time c5 owner with a few ?'s (demonspeedn)
I did a post similiar to this about a week ago. I took it to the track and it ran better than it felt. Lots of good advise out their. Plugs and wires was the most common thing I was told to do first still looking at what wires to buy.
By the way congrats on your new toy. :hurray:
Congrats on the New Vette  About gears, If it's an auto, stock gears I believe are 2.73, MN6 has stock 3.42. Most of us also start with a good exhaust, and then the mods just start building and building :D
Re: first time c5 owner with a few ?'s (demonspeedn)
Congratulations on the C5!
I traded a 98 SLP SS on my 00 C5. Not to be insulting but have you taken the traction control off? The C5 is radically different from my SS. With the SS you feel the pedal pushing back when traction control kicks in. With the C5 you don't.
I'll bet it's quicker than you think. The SS was very low 9's in the 1/8 and the C5 is mid 8's with only a BlackWing and MAF. I started with the air intake side but will do plug wires next. You might also check the C5 Scan and Tune if you're interested in that end.

 On the vette..first you need to tell us how much $$ can you spend and how fast do you wana go???
This is what i did and what most people agree on:
1. INTAKE....you have that
2. exhaust..no hp gain just for looks and sound
3. headers lots of tq and hp here ( FLP'S, GL, etc..)
4. ls6 intake
all of that you can get for under 2500$ depends on what you choose...amd you well pick up anywhere from 20-40rwhp...
5. get a dyno tune after that 350-500$ ....i picked up 22rwhp and 10tq from the dyno tune.....
If you want lots of power and you have the money then get a ATI supercharger 6500$ ...and you well be in the mid to hight 11's all day long and anywhere from 430-450rwhp.....good luck

Welcome to the forum fellow demon! :reddevil  The back plate on your diff will say either 2:73 or 3:15 gear, 3:42 if it's a stick. For the quickest "happy face- :) ", do the gear first for an extreme launch, I like the 3:73's. Then just read my sig, and start in there somewhere! We are all admitted mod-aholics!
Re: first time c5 owner with a few ?'s (demonspeedn)
I was talking to my son about your post and he reminded me that the LT1s which is what I think your TA had have more low end torque than the LS1 in your C5. Only trouble with the LT1 was the torque ran out quickly at high RPMs where the LS1 just keeps on pulling! Put it on the track and you'll see the difference. He had a buddy with a LT1 in a Z-28 that he swore was faster than the C5 mainly because it really pulled hard off the line. He changed his tune after a night at the track!
