Hey guys,
Since installing the TTS Longtubes I've noticed my oil temperatures are considerably higher at times, especially if the outside air temp is over 90 degrees and I am cruising at 75-80mph. The temp is tending to hover between 223-230 degrees. I figure I'm going to start with a new thermostat to cool the motor down some, and from there I'm not real sure. Any ideas?
hehe, maybe it's time for a louvered hood so I can get some of the heat out.
First, those are not bad oil temps. I saw 319 last Tuesday with an outside air temp of 66 degrees. That was right after 20 minutes of WOT driving. When I install my bigger radiator and oil cooler I expect the oil temp to drop to the 230 range. Second, a new thermostat will not help since the water temp is already over the opening point of the stock thermostat. A lower thermostat may increase the amount of time it takes for the oil temps to get up to the level you mentioned but it will not stop them from occuring if you drive long enough.

That's incorrect. A 192 thermostat will not allow an engine to run below 192. I'm running a Hypertech 160 in Texas heat. Cruising at 80 (which is what he was asking) my engine temp stays about 178/180, so my oil temp is also lower. My fans switch off at 185 so they're not used most of the time. I do agree if your driving aggressively the lower rated thermostat won't help.
