Default venting engine compartment/high rise hood

guys with the LT headers seems too darn hot under there...what do you think of dremeling some holes in the fog light shroud to get some cool air in..looks as though the shroud will direct air over top of the engine....then simply remove the molding/seal in the rear portion of the hood to create the exhaust??????

I am also thinking of the RKSports high rise hood that is supposed to be the "revamped" better fitting version that will be out soon....hoping to mod the rear portion of that for an "exhaust effect" and put z06 style screening to peer at from the drivers seat.......I have no idea what the high rise hood looks like from the rear..and if this can be done easily or need skilled body guy......anyone with pictures of the view from the drivers seat with high rise hood????

Any other ideas on venting engine bay without getting a heat extractor hood????

Just for curiosity sake, I hooked up Autotap to compare the IAT readings from a before and after standpoint.

Before
Air Temp - 94F
IAT - 124

After
Air Temp - 91F
IAT - 100F

Note that this drop only occurs after the car is moving and air can flow through the vents. Also note that this is without removing the rear seal which may allow for a faster cooling effect once the car is moving. At idle witht he car standing still, the IAT reading approaches 140F+ and it only takes about a minute for the IAT to rise from 100F to 120F when sitting at a light. I am running a blackwing so this would make sense as once the cool air in the nose cavity is pulled into the engine, it starts pulling heated air from under the hood. So you can imagine that anyone running a blackwing or similar filter will definietly have a small power disadvantage off the line if you have been stopped for more than a minute. Hence the reason i will be switching to a Vararam soon as to alway be pulling ambient air temps to the engine.

just curious as to why you chose the varam over vortex? I would be too hesitant to run varam in the rain!

I would very rarely be driving the car in the rain and I think that for the most part the filter I would have in it for day to day use would be just fine. The thinner race filter would only be in it if I knew for sure there would be no rain, I was at the track, or on the dyno.

Also I am choosing Vararam based on personal experience (No flames please!!!) of a RAM Air system we used to run on the 87 GNs and my 89 Turbo TA. Anyone who had one of these cars will know that they worked to the tune of .2 sec and 2-3 mph in the 1/4. Not saying I will get this on the Vette, but the principle is the same. As well with the Vortex, you still have the ability to pull heated air as a backdraft from the radiator. If anything the only other setup that I would consider at this point is the setup from MTI.
