Default 4.10 question

Been planning on getting a 4.10 gear, will I have to get a whole new rear end or can I just buy the gears?

Well that depends. If you have a 2:xx carrier you will have to send it to Dynotech to get it machined to accept the gears. If you have a 3:xx case you can use the rear you have. But, there is some speculation as to if anybody except a master mechanic can do it. If you have done gear swaps before and know how do set up pinion depth and all that crap, I don't see why you can't do it.

im definately having an expert install the gears, I just wanted to make sure that if I had them installed in the stock rear end, It wouldn't go to pieces after a few had launches

You can go either way. You can have the gears installed in your rearend (which takes some time) or have the rearend swapped out for a rebuilt one with the gear you want.
It's quite an involved process either way. The whole rear suspension and exhaust has to be dropped for the rearend swap.
I'm taking mine in tomorrow for the rear swap to 4.10. Can't wait!
