ready to order 4.10 (DTE seems like the good choice) and i found 1 guy(in vegas) with an old shop, thats been working on vettes for 25 years. Says swapping out diffs looks like a one day job ($400 quoted) what do you guys think, should i go with the local mech or drive to ca & take a couple of days at a shop where some of you guys have been to. i prefer choice 1 fo a lot of reasons
It would bother me if he said it "looked like a one day job". Sounds like he's guessing, although he's right. It's a 7 hour job in the manual according to GM.
I'm no mechanic and I did it in 7-8hrs w/o a lift. There's nothing difficult about it and it doesn't require any special tools.
I have a 6spd so no programming was necessary.
Especially if you always do business with him! It is not hard (I did it in my garage also!)
400.00 os the going rate...so in that since it is fair. However it should take closer to 4-5 hours:) Once he gets started he will see! If he worked on it non-stop I can see 2-3 hours;)
To get the best performance out of 4.10s you do need some programming. Rev limit need to be raised for higher shift points.
