I'm going to install my dual beam Euro HID kit tomorrow, but I still have some questions left.
1) What resistor needs to be changed (and to what value) to avoid the headlights not closing issue? (I don't think going to high beams will do it for me since I'm using a H4 kit and will have no halogen high-beam)
2) Does anyone have a good description of where the leads for your HID kit tap into the battery? Right at the poles? (that seems kinda junky)
Please give me a hand here, I'm concerned that the install won't go well.
The Euro HID setup that I have plugs right in to the harness. The only difference is that the polarity is reversed so you have to reverse the connectors (no splicing needed - just flip them over). At least this is what I did with the Euro HID setup that I bought from LAPD.
You can plug the connector in backwards or cut the wires and revers them.
To get the Headlights to go down you need to add 150ohm resister to the cable. Otherwise you just need to relearn a new on and off proceedure.
Oh ya one more thing, you need to bump up the fuse value to 15amps instead of ten. It's been about two years sense I've installed a set of HID's.
Best of luck to ya,
Tim
Are the resisitors 150ohm or 15ohm? Tuan gave me a link to a 50watt 15ohm resistor.
Other Questions:
- Exactly where do these 4 resistors get placed? Do you need to splice the Catz wiring?
- I've been told the wiring needs reversed..what wires exactly should i reverse?
- Catz says to always use "dielectric compound" for all electrical connections. Is this 'that' important?
- Do I need the euro wiring harness to get the Catz H4 kit to hook up? I assumed the kit would include a Euro to US adapter, but it didn't.
- Does anyone have a good description of the lighting control hook-up or the wiring you guys have done in the battery area?

Even though you have no halogen high-beam, flashing the high beam with Catz dual hi/low kit will still get the headlight assembly to go down. :)

Your Catz dual-beam hi/low harness will have 3 wire connections. One for the ground, one for +12V lo-beam and the other +12V for hi-beam. Just tap into the +12V leads from your old halogen hi/low. As for hi/lo converter, you can hook it to the battery.
I haven't done a CatZ system so I am not familiar with it. I pretty much tossed the way eveyone else was wiring the systems out the window. They are ALL bandaids not a cure for the problem !!!! As far as the dielectric grease goes, use it, it will prevent corrosion.
Without seeing the car & the system I can't be of too much help. I had BarkingOwls figured out but he chose to return the system & go with another brand & the resistor setup also.

The other problem with the original system was that LAPD admitted that it wasn't designed to work with the C5 but made no effort to let me know. It wasn't until I called them up that Shawn replaced that system with the Phillips one.
We had the same problem with the headlight doors refusing to close. When we contacted the vendor's lighting specialist they sent Neal a resistor with a couple bare wires sticking out of it & told him to wire that into the harness. I chose to buy a heavy duty wiring harness from Steve at the C5 Performance Center. It contained all the resistors, connectors & so forth. Neal connected everything & it worked. You would have to ask him about the specifics of that installation. My role was limited to holding a flashlight.
The one thing that I do remember was that the harness was connected directly to the alternator not the battery & it was grounded on the bolt that secures the washer fluid resevoir. Another friend broke the bolt along the side. Neal mounted the ballasts in the headlight wells below the headlights. I've seen others mounted in the engine compartment behind the lights. Mine work fine where they're at.
When Tuan introduced this system I was kicking myself for not waiting because I really wanted a hi/low HID system, but the lows in my system are just as bright as my highs were in the old system. I sent you an IM but if you need any more info just send me another IM & I'll try to help more if I can.
I just got off the phone with Tuan Le, who filled in the missing pieces of the puzzle for me, so hopefully I'll be able to finish the install this weekend. I also purchased some PIAA 1100x's from him in an effort to melt the paint off any car near me.
Photos (before and after) will be posted for all to see.
