Default Gears and a Converter

I have a PT2900 and 3.42 gears. If I swap the 3.42's for 3.73's will my trap speeds increase?

Unfortunately, I never took the car to the track before modifying it and I am not certain how much of a difference my gears and coverter actually make?

All else being equal you should pickup 1-2 tenths by swapping 3.42s for 3.73s.

Yes, I understand I will improve my times. . .however, I am specifically wondering if the change in gears will result in a higher MPH?

It depends upon shift points. You will need a little tuning. The 3.42 gear is a good all around gear.I would change out that converter and go with a yank ST 3500.

I would say you will gain 1-2 MPH. I agree the Yank ST3500 or better yet the SS3800 will give you better ETs and higher MPH.

I'll be surprised if you pick up any trap speed with just the gear swap. Unless you're well out of your power band in the traps now (I doubt you are) it shouldn't make too much difference (i.e. allow you to reach your power band better in 3rd within 1/4.) I think I saw maybe +1.5 MPH when swapping from stock TC+3.15 to SY3500+3.73, most of which I attributed to the converter.
