I was out of town for 2 weeks and the corvette's battery is dead. I tried jumping it but it looks like the battery won't hold a charge anymore. I am trying to decide on whether to tow it to the dealer and have them take care of changing the battery or going out and buying one and replacing it myself.
However, I have heard some wierd things about how changing a battery in a C5 is not as straight foward as other cars. Is there anything that I have to watch out for or anything special that I have to do if I decide to change the battery myself????
I went to Battery Plus and had a Optima yellow top installed. When changing the battery you can lose some of your memory settings so they use a little backup device that saves memory until it's installed. :flag

if you're still under warranty you might check with the dealer on getting it replaced.
if not you can change it out yourself and save some money.
when i replaced my battery the only thing i had to reprogram was my remotes.
:iagree: Let GM give you an new one, if possible. The new replacement battery is supposed to be good. If not, get an Optima AND a Battery Tender to use when the car is not in service. :yesnod: :)
I wouldn't want another one of those 10 dollar GM batteries if they gave it to me, they leak and seep inside the wiring below the battery box and cause a lot of problems, keeping in mind the PCM is directly below the box and is not sealed off from it--scrap the GM, the Optima is a great choice--I never lost programing on my PCM and it is some heavy duty programing---
OK, here's what I did.. my battery was dead as yours is, I wanted an Optima battery because it is the best... hands down. I replaced the battery on a Sunday.. the dealership service department was closed. On Monday I let them know I had to replace the battery and couldn't wait till they opened the next day. They issued me a check for $75 to cover the cost of replacement (Optima almost free). Keep in mind that today is Sunday and tomorrow is a Holiday... Go get that battery!!! Just be sure you have the receipt to verify when you purchased the new battery. Good Luck!! :seeya
It is super easy to change a battery in a C5. I did my own change to a Optima yellow top and did not have to reprogram anything. I had it unhooked all last winter and did not loose memory. Why did it not lose any memory   , I do not know.
PS. Check the forum archieves, there is a lot of GM battery horror stories out there.

Re: Help. Battery Question! (STRMLNE)
If you have warranty left, get GM to replace it with a new AGM battery. If no warranty, get an Optima Red Top. The only thing I had to do when I changed mine out was to unlock the stereo. Everything else worked fine.
