My 2000 vert's driver's door window is striking the convertible roof top when I close the door. The contact point is the top rear of the window. It looks to me as though the window is simply sitting too high when it's fully closed. Has anyone seen this problem before and/or fixed it ? I've heard of adjusting the window tip-in, but I don't know whether that would fix this problem. The local dealer is asking $150 "to start looking at it" with no guarantee they can fix it. I'd much rather try to fix it myself. Thanks in advance for any advice !!
Re: 2000 Vert driver's window hitting vert top (Grantsc)
Common problem :yesnod: The top shrinks in that corner...If you are lucky the window can be adjusted foward and in to clear.I have seen where a new seam had to be sewn into the top because the top had shrunk to much to allow for window adjustment.
Re: 2000 Vert driver's window hitting vert top (Grantsc)
This problem happened on my 98 convertible, and it's easy to fix. It did not require a window tip-in adjustment. Rather it simply required a top frame adjustment.
Here is how to the top frame adjustment is done.
Unlatch the top and lift up the front section of the top. You will see an adjusting nut with a beveled edge between the two parts of the top frame that is above the window. Use a torx driver to expose several more screw threads from the frame. This will "stretch" the top, and it can be "stretched" enough so that the window will no longer touch the top. It's literally a five minute job.
Re: 2000 Vert driver's window hitting vert top (Grantsc)
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm going to try the top adjustment first, see if that fixes it. If not, move on to tip-in. It was a nasty day weather-wise here in Chicago yesterday, so I'll have to wait till this weekend to do it. I'll let you know how it goes, thanks again for all the good info !
Re: 2000 Vert driver's window hitting vert top (Don Baldwin)
I also agree with C5BTW. I would not mess with the window tip adjustment unless you are sure the top is adjusted correctly. Messing with the window itself can cause leaking problems down the road.
Re: 2000 Vert driver's window hitting vert top (Grantsc)
Well guys, I tried the roof adjustment to no avail, so looks like I will be attempting the more complex window tip-in adjustment. After closer inspection, it's obvious the window has never been seating correctly - it does not "snug" up to the weather strips anywhere near as closely as the passenger side. I will keep you posted on the outcome, and thanks again for the help :seeya

Dude, don't mess with it.. I had it happen on my 2000. It ruined the top before I caught it in time.. The top was repalced under warranty..
This is a Trim Shop job. The top loosens over time. And if the factory does not put it on tight enough to begin with then the top becomes too loose once it breaks in.
I even had to take my new top back in a year later to have it re-adjusted...It is now perfect..
MY trim shop guy that the dealer recomended did a great job. He said this is a common problem that he has fixed many times..
