Default What should this setup run in 1/4?

Vortex filter, flowmaster exhaust, 3.42 gear, SS3600, also with tranny cooler, with Nitto drag radials on a 98 c-5 a4. What is the best everyone thinks this combo will run in the 1/4 mile?

Forum member MC Torch Red ran a setup that is very similar to your set up. He runs an ST3500 that is nearly identical to your SS3600. He ran 12.4 to 12.5s most of the time in the Texas heat, he recently ran a best of 12.36 @ 109 MPH.

All that I can see in his mods that really matters is the TC & DR.

Filter= little or very little HP
Flowmaster Exh= same thing
TC= excellent mod
Drag Radials= a must have with the TC

I doubt very seriously that the car would run 12.40's. I'll take a guess and say 12.70's, maybe .60's in good weather. Don't get me wrong, I'm not insulting your mods or your car (I'm jealous I don't have a TC), but I think the only two mods that are going to effect your ET are the TC and DR.....and I don't think they'll bring an otherwise stock A-4 to 12.40's-12.50's. I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time, won't be the last

Let me/us know how it does...I'd be very interested.

Best Regards-

I have to respectfully disagree, the Vortex CAI is a very good mod, a cold air intake can give you as much as .3 tenths over the stock intake. You also forgot the 3.42 gears they are easily good for 1-2 tenths over 2.73s or 3.15s.

Just to add my setup for a performance baseline. I have a halltech tric intake, bassani exhaust, SY3500, and 3.73 gears. Pretty similar except for the gears and this past weekend i was running 12.83 @ 108 mph consistantly. The only difference is that I was doing it with potenza s0-3 street tires 32psi and pulling 1.97 60' ft. Figure if you can get to 1.77 60' ft thats 2 tenths there equating to 4 tenths in the 1/4 giving you consistant 12.4's. I think you can get a better 60' only making up more time in the 1/4.

vortex cold air was great for me, my stock 2.73 car went from 13.38 to 13.00 with only that mod. so its works i don't know anyone who has not got some good gains from it.................. :yesnod:

i am at sea level, where are you. i think with a good tune [ls1edit] it should run 12.30' to 12.50's e-z. once you learn how to launch that bad boy t/c of yours and get your 60ft. time to around 1.60 you will be in the low 12's for sure. good luck and have fun.

I'd guess 12.6-12.7 @ 108-109MPH 1/4 mile probably 8.20 1/8 mile with a 1.70 60' time. I am good at guessing these kinda things. Let us know how it goes.

I agree and disagree, respectfully of course  . You're right, the 3.42's are definitely worth the 1-2 tenths IMO.....and we'll assume the the cold air intake is worth .3 tenths.

So, basically we're at a stock A-4 2.73 car, less 2.3 tenths for the cold air intake and the 3.42 carrier....that means you'd need the car to run 12.90's stock, then subtract your 2.3 tenths for your mods..... and just to be nice we'll throw in 2 tenths for the DR and end up with 12.47, ie mid 12's (your guess). I have never, ever heard of a stock 2.73 C-5 running 12.90's or even 13'0's for that matter. Again, I'm probably wrong but I'm sure someone will correct me :yesnod:

MC Torch Red also has headers and professional tuning by Chris @ "Speed Demon." Big difference right there alone. "98BlackC-5A4" has neither???

I'm just trying to think logically here- which is very hard for me to do, so be patient :jester

t/c makes a big diff. with dr's. i ran at houston raceway park in 50 degree weather jan.03 12.89@107 and backed it up with a 12.94@108 with only corsa touring and vortex. a-4 w/2.73's so it has been done. also with out tuning. the cars at mti getting tuned as we speak...if i'm drive-n his car at sea level i could bring it down to 12.30's e-z. i'm a track rat, i'm their every friday night and sunday afternoon burning rubber so i have a little know how on this matter. he has a killer t/c and nice gears, with dr's he can run 12.50's all day long. i did it in the middle of this houston heat a bunch of times. :yesnod:

The corsa will out perform the flowmasters and they are lighter.

My best before H/C was 12.58 @ 109+ mph and my mods were 2800PT conv,3.15 gears 172 thermostat,Vortec Ram air & Corsa Indy pace exhaust. This was done with no tuning. :hurray: :hurray: :iagree:

LittleBoyBlu, you did that with DR of course. My point from my previous post was that if I am running 12.8 on stock tires with basically the same setup and 1.97 60' then with DR's getting 1.7 60' will consistantly pull mid 12's @108-110
