Default Insulation Problem

I ripped out the interior of my vert last week and lined the car front to back with Reflectix.

It worked great! There is less noise, and the tunnel is MUCH cooler now.

There's just one problem -- my Window Valet doesn't work now.

I tried the WV in the coupe, and it works there, and the WV from the coupe doesn't work in the vert either, so it's not the Window Valet.

I can't even get into the configuration mode for either Window Valet when they're installed in the vert. It works correctly with both in the coupe.

The key fobs work fine for locking/unlocking the doors.

I'm guessing that I've shorted something, but I can't figure out what.

Has anybody who has done this mod run into this problem?

Does anybody have any ideas?

Too much metal in the Reflectix causing a "shielding" effect? In other words the radio signal is being blocked. Anybody else have a thought?

Check fuse #29 in the I/P block (passenger footwell). Did you notice if the courtesy lights were working, that fuse also powers them.

If the fuse is good then check to see if the Data Link Connector (the DLC is where the WV is plugged in) is getting power. Put a voltmeter on pins 4 or 5 for the (-) and pin 16 for the (+). Pin #1 is at top right corner, then count straight across to #8 on top left corner, move straight down to #9 at bottom left corner, then count over to #16 at bottom right corner.

If the fuse is good, and you're getting power at the DLC, then you probably (hopefully) have a loose connection somewhere, but I have no idea where. If that's not it, then you might need to make a trip to your dealer.

Good luck.

Actually, I thought something was screwy with the interior lights.

BRB, got my voltmeter handy!

BINGO!

Fuse 29 was blown.

Now I just have to figure out why.

Any idea what else is on that circuit? There is a wire that runs to the e-brake assembly that controls the dash light. Might that be on that circuit?

Everything that the WV controls taps in to it somewhere. You probably blew the fuse while unplugging the seats. Replace the fuse, if it blows again, then rip out the carpet again to look for an exposed wire, if it's still good when you plug in the WV, then problem solved, time to go for a :auto:

Carpet and seats are back in, just need to install the console and waterfall.

Thanks for the help!
