I have a clicking sound coming from what sounds like the right rear of my car. It is a SINGLE click that occurs only when I am at a stop and begin to go forward. Or when I stop and go backward. Once it clicks one time it stops until the next stop.
I took it to the dealer and they said that the parking brake cable is hanging up and each time the car is stopped, it is popping (even though, of course, I am not using the parking brake). They had to order a new cable but said that they "released it" and it shouldn't do it. But when I drove away it continued to do it.
Did you take the baseball card out of the spokes?
Seriously, maybe a bad U joint, slack, click, tight, it would explain the single click forward, then the single click back, had a similar one on my C4.
I was told by two different techies that the clicking was caused by "dry splines". I have been driving with this sound for a long time with no bad consequences. It's just annoying to hear and expensive to fix.

Any ideas would be helpful!
Thanks.
It sounds like the large axle nut in the center of the rear wheel has to be retorqued. Also I have heard that it may need to be re lubricated but that was not the case in mine. The assembly can work it's way loose and that is the resulting sound. Get it fixed as it is causing greater wear on the spline. It is a very common problem and I would very suspect of a service facility that hadn't seen lots of these.
